How To Write Your First Blog Post
Your first post is always a post you will think about, write, think about again and rewrite. The first post is an important post that introduces yourself, who you are, what you are planning and what you will talk about on your blog but it may not be easy for a lot of people. Just think of it as if you were meeting a friend face to face and your friend was hanging on every word you said, what would you say about your blog and your plans for it ?
Also remember it should be interesting and to the point, if you want to go deeper you could link to your about me page which should be more detailed. A unique idea for anyone who wants to try is to add a video introducing yourself and your blog. So I’ll go through the main points that make up the structure of a good first post.
- Introduce Yourself – visitors want to see the person behind the blog so tell them about you, the more they know you, the more trust they have in you and therefore the better your blog will become in every area. Be honest and don’t outright lie about yourself, lies always come back to haunt you. Talk about your accomplishments, experience, proud moments, hobbies and try to connect with your readers.
- How and Why You Started Your Blog – You could share a story about how and why you started your blog. What is the purpose of your blog? What are your plans and aspirations for the blog ? Again this is about trust and getting to know you. What can readers expect from you and your blog every day or whatever post frequency you choose.
- What Will You Be Blogging About ? – talk about the categories you will be covering and how often you expect to be posting and updating the blog. What will you be teaching or sharing ?
- Ask For Participation and Interaction – readers want to participate, feel welcomed and to contribute. Tell them how they can be involved. Ask them to comment, to subscribe to your RSS, bookmark a post and any other action you want them to make. Ask them how they can help you in your blogging experience or in any other way, people are only willing to help you if you ask but don’t beg or annoy, just encourage them. Always thank people for their participation whenever you can, they will remember you for doing it.
